‘Tis the Season — Football (aka Tailgating) Season

Football season is not only about picking the perfect fantasy football team or JOINING THE SANTANDER PRO FOOTBALL POOL (subtle, I know). It’s also about setting the stage for the perfect tailgating experience. Here are a few tips to rev up your bumper banquet.

Seating

There is nothing worse than trying to eat a hamburger and a side of baked beans while standing. There could be a fumble or two in your future. So pack enough folding chairs for everyone. And they don’t have to be the metal chairs used for a game of spades. Nowadays, you can find tailgating chairs equivalent to a La-Z-Boy recliner. Picnic chairs today have cup holders, umbrellas, even a footrest. Just because you’re partying behind a truck, doesn’t mean you can’t do it in style.

Eating

The tailgate is nothing without some fun and festive fare. If you’re a traditionalist, you will opt for cooking a burger, brat, frank, steak or other meat over fire. Your best friend will be a good grill. Whether it’s the colossal cooker or the George Foreman, your grilling machine must handle the hungry masses that will congregate around your back bumper! Foodies, don’t be afraid to show off your goods as well. You can liven up your party with hors d’oeuvres instead of hot dogs and serve a Beaujolais instead of Bud. Just know your audience and plan to please.

Drinking

Cocktails…enough said! But keep enough water and non-alcoholic beverages for the under-21 set, designated drivers and expecting mothers (yes, moms to be tailgate too).

Entertaining

Uncle Jerry’s comedy act may be a hit at the family reunion, but every tailgate needs a little something extra to keep the crowd engaged. That’s where the music comes in. Music is like butter–it makes just about anything better. With the wide array of iPods, iPads, and MP3 gadgets, it’s easy to kick out the jams. You may want to splurge a little on the speakers, but trust us, it’ll be worth it. Go ahead. Give the neighboring tailgaters a little something to shimmy to.

Use these tips to help you successfully fill up the truck and cooler before heading toward the nearest set of Friday night lights, College GameDay or Sunday afternoon athletic stadium. It’s party time. Get your tailgate on!

Are You Ready for Kickoff?

Are You Ready for Kickoff?

The approach of autumn means cooler weather, falling leaves, tailgating and…FOOTBALL. Face it, no other sports season is more highly anticipated than the game played on the gridiron with a pigskin. And with football season, comes the annual Santander Pro Football Pool.

Those dealers that participated in last year’s inaugural event know how much fun it is to compete against your fellow dealers online for some great prizes. Not to mention bragging rights. This year’s pool promises to be even better with new prizes awarded to the winning dealer every week.

As you get ready for the football season and are working out the moves of your touchdown celebration dance (you know you have one), be thinking of your picks for the first game of the first week – Cowboys versus Giants on Wednesday, September 5.

Good luck, it’s going to be a fun and exciting football season.
It’s incredibly simple to enter. If you are interested in joining the pool, you can sign up by following these steps.

  4. Make your weekly pick (see “How the Pool Works” below), with the ability to change them right up until your pool’s deadline.

How The Pool Works:

  • Picks are made “straight up,” not using a point-spread system.
  • Each pool member picks every NFL game for the week.
  • In addition to picking the winning team, members must rank how confident they are that the team they picked will win. The more points assigned to a pick, the more confident they are that team will win.
  • For each correct pick, they receive the number of points they assigned to that pick.
  • Standings are calculated for the week and for the year-to-date.
  • We’ll also be tweeting throughout the season, so be sure and follow us on Twitter (https://twitter.com/SantanderDealer) to keep up with the latest information
  • Like us on Facebook and we will announce the winner(s) for each week on our Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/SantanderAutoDealers). The winners can have their ASM stop by to deliver your prize and snap a photo of you for us to post on Facebook.

A brief reminder: You must get your picks in by the weekly deadline — before the first game each Sunday, however if there is an early game you must pick ALL games before it starts. You can modify the remainder of the games up until the Sunday deadline. All picks will be hidden until the game has begun (for early games) or the until the first kickoff on Sunday. Good luck to everyone. If you have any questions, please Read the FAQ and check out the Message Board. If you still have questions, feel free to post it on the public message board. Calling All Armchair Quarterbacks

Calling All Armchair Quarterbacks

Are you pumped up for the kickoff of the 2012 college football season? So are we. That’s why in addition to our annual Santander Dealer NFL Pool, we are launching a separate college football competition. Presenting the Santander College Football Survivor Pool. Beginning August 30, this virtual gridiron game lets you pick a team each week from the Top 25. You must choose wisely–win and you move on, but pick a team that loses, and you’re out. There will be lots of great prizes up for grabs and winners will be announced every week. See below for a full list of rules and how this pool will work.

FYI: Week 1 game pick summaries will not be available until after the first game of the week has started or the weekly pick deadline has passed.

Rules
Here are the rules for our College Football Survivor pools:

  • Each pool member chooses one Top 25 college team each week.
  • Each team can only be picked ONCE per season.
  • Picks are made against the point spread.
  • If a member’s pick is correct, they survive until the next week.
  • An incorrect pick eliminates the player from the pool for the remainder of the season.
  • The goal is to be the the last member standing at the end of the season.

Making Picks

Unlike the Santander Dealer NFL Pool, members must pick against the spread in each game. Another twist is that the teams available to be picked can change week-to-week. Member’s can only choose from the nation’s top college teams for the current week, as determined by the AP Top 25.

RunYourPool.com makes the process of picking a team each week safe and simple. There will be no weeks where members mistakenly pick a team they’ve already used. We keep track of each member picks and prevent them from repicking a team.

Viewing Picks and Standings

At RunYourPool.com, pool members are able to view all other pool members picks ONLY after the weekly pick deadline has passed. The weekly pick deadline is the start of the first Saturday game each week. For early games each week, members will be able to view picks once those games have begun and can no longer be picked or changed.

Buy-Backs

For those unfortunate members that get eliminated early, we have implemented a “Buy-Back” feature for our College Football Survivor pools. Using this feature, Santander Pool Administrators can reinstate members that have been eliminated from the pool in the previous week.

Dealer Profile: William Halley, General Sales Manager Stone Mountain Chrysler, Stone Mountain, Ga.

Q: Why did you choose to start working with Drive®? Why do you continue to work with them?

A: I started as a subprime finance manager in 1995, so I have been doing this for quite a long time. I found that Drive Financial gave me an edge over my competition, because many finance managers wouldn’t use Drive, because the fees were high. But the reality is, there wouldn’t be a deal if it weren’t for Drive. I have found Drive to be very consistent with its practices, which, in my opinion, makes it very easy to use them. Your callback is exactly what it says, with no surprises. Drive structures your deal to fit the callback and you have a deal. The callback gives you everything you need to do your deal, unlike many banks. It’s as easy as you make it to do business with Drive or any other bank.

Q: What do you see as the greatest challenges in special finance today? Is Drive able to help you overcome any of those challenges?

A: The greatest challenges in special finance today are inconsistencies of lenders practices, approvals changing when the deals are sent in for funding and funding issues. I have not had these problems with Drive, because with Drive the program is the program every time. The approvals remain the same throughout the transaction and the funding is amazingly fast for the type of customer Drive chooses to put on the books.

Q: What are the key things a dealer should know when using Drive as a lender?

A: The key things a dealer should know when using Drive Financial are as follows: You have to

»» buy cars to fit the program with Drive. There are many customers that fit this program that get approved with Drive and leave because the dealership doesn’t have cars for them. This needs to be part of the used-car manager’s job on a daily basis, if you really want to be in the sub-prime business like we are.
»» Funding with Drive Financial is as good as any other lender, if you send in a fundable package. If it goes in right, it comes out right.
»» Drive is not going anywhere, so if there is any question about their ability to fund, don’t let this be a concern. They do subprime the right way.

Q: How has your relationship with your sales manager affected your relationship with Drive?

A: My area sales manager does her job very effectively and is there when we need her, but over the years we have developed such a good relationship with our buyer that if we need help with a deal for any reason, we just call the buyer directly. Most [area sales managers] with Drive are more knowledgeable than any other [bankers] out there.

Q: Do you see Drive as a partner to help your business succeed? Why or why not?

A: Drive is a daily part of our business. They have been for years, because there is always a way to go with every customer when you understand their program. Much of our success is dependent on Drive, which is made even more evident by the referrals of customers from other dealers who don’t use Drive as a lender. We don’t understand why a dealership wouldn’t use a lender like Drive, but we are not mad because it just means more business for us.
